Choose up to 3 spells of 8th level or lower that you can cast, that have a casting time of 1 action, and that can target you. You cast those spells--called the contingent spells--as part of casting chain contingency, expending spell slots for each, but the contingent spells don't come into effect. Instead, they take effect when a certain circumstance occurs. You describe that circumstance when you cast the spells. For example, a chain contingency cast with mind blank, tongues, and true seeing might stipulate that those spells come into effect when you are targeted by a harmful effect originating from a fiend.
The contingent spells take effect immediately after the circumstance is met for the first time, whether or not you want them to, and then chain contingency ends.
The contingent spells take effect only on you, even if they can normally target others. You can use only one chain contingency spell at a time.
If you cast this spell again, the effect of another chain contingency spell on you ends. Also, chain contingency ends on you if its material component is ever not on your person.
