This spell has the ability to transfer the magic of one common magical item, to another nonmagical or magical item. If the magic of the item is compatible with the type of item being transferred to — a warhammer could not absorb the power of a vorpal sword for instance — then the caster can spend time engaged in a process to transfer the magic from one to the other. If an item requires attunement for it to be used, then the caster must be attuned to it during the casting of this spell. Any magic within the item receiving the transfer is destroyed and replaced by the new powers. The item being transferred from loses its magic at the completion of this spell.
Casting this spell requires 24 hours of continual contact with each item involved in the process. Platinum, in any form, to a certain value dependant on the rarity of the item being drained, is required as a catalyst during the process and is consumed by the spell. At the end of the process, the caster suffers one level of exhaustion for each successive level of rarity of the item above mundane. Transferring the magic of a legendary item would therefore inflict five levels of exhaustion on the caster.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can transfer the magic from an uncommon magical item to your chosen item. With a 5th level slot, the item being transferred from can be rare, a 7th level slot allows you to transfer from a very rare item, and a 9th level slot is required to transfer the magic of a legendary item.
