With the clench of your hands, you call up strands of thorny vines to ensnare a creature of your choice within range, so long as that creature is in contact with the ground. Gargantuan creatures are unaffected. The target creature must make a dexterity saving throw, with advantage if it is huge sized. On a failure, the target is restrained by the vines until the start of your next turn. If the target succeeds, the thorns attach to its legs. If a creature moves, is moved, or is knocked prone while thorns are attached to it's legs, it suffers 1d4 piercing damage.
At 5th level, a creature that fails its saving throw suffers 1d4 piercing damage, and the damage dealt due to a creature moving or being knocked prone while thorns are attached to it is increased by 1d4. At level 11 and level 17, both damage rolls are increased by 1d4.
