Analytical Tome

Analytical Tome is a versatile cantrip that empowers the caster to gain detailed instructions and information about a touched object. With a touch of their hand, the caster activates their innate divinatory skills, unraveling the secrets and inner workings of the object.

Upon casting Analytical Tome, the caster places their hand on the chosen object, which can be anything non-living. They must also have an empty book and a small vial of ink at hand. As the spell takes effect, intricate diagrams, formulae, and detailed instructions materialize within the pages of the book.

The caster gains comprehensive knowledge about the touched object and every connected part within a 25-foot range. This includes information about the object's construction, functions, and operation, as well as revealing mechanical positions, hidden compartments, or puzzle solutions. The instructions within the book provide a step-by-step guide on how to interact with or utilize the object effectively.

Importantly, the caster does not need any prior knowledge or familiarity with the touched object. The spell's divination magic delves into the object's essence and uncovers its secrets, presenting the information in a clear and concise manner within the book.

Analytical Tome can be used to analyze a wide range of objects, from intricate clockwork mechanisms to complex magical artifacts, mundane tools, or even natural items like seeds or plants. It enables the caster to quickly understand the principles and functions behind the object, empowering them to make informed decisions and utilize the object to its fullest potential.

However, the spell's effect is limited to a specific cubic area within the object. For larger objects, only a 25-foot diameter section is revealed, centered on the point of touch. For example, if an caster touches a wall, only a small 25-foot section of the connected pieces within the wall will be revealed. This limitation prevents the spell from being used as an optimal mapping tool.

Analytical Tome can only be used once per object. Once the spell is cast on a specific object, subsequent castings of the spell on the same object do not yield additional information. The divination magic used by the spell exhausts its ability to extract further knowledge from that particular object.
