A surge of water erupts around you. Each creature within 5 feet of you must make a Strength saving throw. A creature takes 8d8 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone on a failed save, or takes half as much damage on a successful save and isn't knocked prone. Whenever a creature starts its turn within this spell's range, it must make a Strength saving throw. If the creature fails, it begins drowning.

When cast underwater, the spell's area increases to a 10 foot cube and creatures without a swim speed have disadvantage on the saving throw.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th.
