You create a temporary alternate reality within your immediate vicinity, distorting the perceptions of those who observe you. While under the effects of this spell, you project a different appearance and alter the sensory information received by others, making it difficult for them to discern your true form and actions.
For the duration of this spell, you gain the following benefits:
-
Illusory Appearance: You can choose to appear as any humanoid creature of your approximate size and shape. This illusory form is convincing to casual observers, but a creature that interacts with you can make an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC to determine that you are an illusion. The illusionary appearance does not grant you any special abilities or powers of the chosen creature.
-
Shifting Shadows: As a bonus action on each of your turns, you can shift your position within your current space, making it difficult for enemies to track your movements. Until the start of your next turn, attacks made against you have disadvantage, and you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.
-
Misdirected Perception: Whenever a creature makes an attack against you, it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature mistakenly targets an illusory duplicate of you, created by the spell. The duplicate vanishes harmlessly, and the attack automatically misses.
-
Illusory Actions: As an action, you can create illusory duplicates of yourself within a 30-foot radius. These duplicates move and mimic your actions, confusing your enemies. Each duplicate appears indistinguishable from you and lasts until the end of your next turn. While the duplicates are present, any creature that targets you with an attack or a harmful spell must choose randomly among the duplicates as the target. The chosen duplicate vanishes harmlessly, and the attack or spell automatically misses.
Once you cast this spell, you can't do so again until you complete a long rest.
Alternate Reality allows wizards to create a deceptive realm of illusion, shrouding themselves in a veil of confusion and misdirection. By manipulating perceptions and employing illusory tactics, wizards can protect themselves and confound their adversaries, gaining a tactical advantage in combat or social encounters. However, keen observers and creatures with heightened senses may still be able to see through the illusion, so discretion and careful use of this spell are essential for success.
