Blood calls to blood, and is thicker than water. you can use the blood of a creature or humanoid to locate them in a specific area when you have a vial of their blood. performing this ritual takes 10 minutes, during which the blood is consumed by the map, and denotes the general location (depending on the size and specificity of the map) where the target is, though the magical mark does not move, and is only there for six seconds before vanishing.
* - (Blood from your target, harvested in the last 24 hours. and a map of the area in which you want to search.)

Posted Nov 11, 2019Hello! This is the Event Coordinator of WSU D&D.
I do believe there need to be more tracking spells in D&D; it's an aspect of the game that's lost with the tragedy of the Ranger class. I do feel like this spell could use some clarification though. For instance, does the amount of blood have to be enough to fill a whole vial? That's quite a lot of blood, and I almost worry it would have to be given willingly to get that amount. Additionally, the "harvested in the last 24 hours" puts an extremely small time span on what could be investigatively interesting. Imagine making a pact with someone and sealing it in vials of blood, holding each other accountable in case one tries to flee the country. I personally think this spell could be much more integral to your players given the right circumstances.

Posted Nov 11, 2019So, the amount of blood is hard to specify, and I took the "vial" measurement from spells like Summon Greater/Lesser Demons, though I suppose it would function equally as well with only a few drops. My main thought with the time frame, and I suppose this would take clever players to get around, would be that they would not have an automatic locator spell when looking for people. That being said, the 24 hour limit could be extened with the use of a Gentle Repose spell for long term storage, even a vial enchanted with Gentle Repose would function well (Like the viewing box from the Brighton Manor murder mystery).
