You fire a highly concentrated beam of raw, extraplanar magic towards a creature you can see within range, creating a sound that is audible within 300 feet of you. Make a ranged spell attack against your target. On hit, the target takes 12d10 force damage.
If this damage reduces the target to 0 HP, you can choose to have the beam continue traveling and hit new targets along its path. On another successful ranged spell attack, it hits its new target, doing 1d10 less damage than it did to the last target. The beam can continue doing this damage to each new target in its path, stopping when it either misses, fails to reduce a target to 0, or its damage is reduced to 0 or below.
This spell requires physical stability to control, aim, and fire. You take a -5 penalty to hit with this spell unless you are prone or otherwise stabilized (such as propping yourself behind cover). Unlike other ranged attacks, this spell does not have disadvantage to hit targets within 5 feet of you so long as the target is prone, grappled, or incapacitated. Otherwise, the penalty still applies.
