As part of casting this spell you must expend five hit dice or the spell automatically fails. If you do, you draw blood with the sacrificial dagger. As you draw the blood, you chant a Blood Rite ritual incantation to the Blood Moon, offering the blood as a sacrifice. The blood spills onto the ground and transforms into red petals as a crimson fog forms and coats the environment in red. Even during daylight, the Blood Moon will appear and darken the sky with a scarlet hue.
You reshape the terrain to your will. You can alter the terrain of a 50 foot cube centered on a point you can see within range. You can subtract or reshape the present terrain as you choose within the cube, but you can only add material that is present within the cube when you first cast the spell. Any trees and organic plant life transform into Bloodwood Trees and Bloodwood Vines.
As an action on your turn, you can choose to ensnare and drain the life force of a target creature within range of any Bloodwood Tree or Vine. The target must make a Strength saving throw or become restrained by writhing roots and vines for the duration. While Restrained, the target takes 3d8 Necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns. Whenever the restrained creature takes damage from this spell, you gain temporary hit points equal to the amount of damage dealt. At the end of each of its turns, the restrained creature can make a Strength saving throw, ending the restraint on a success. As long as you maintain concentration, you can use your bonus action to target another creature with your Bloodwood Trees and Vines.
The crimson light of the Bloodmoon emboldens you and three creatures of your choice with vestiges of your Blood Rite incantation, giving you and your allies resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage against weapons which are not magical.
