You create a thick, billowing cloud of corrosive acid that spreads out in a 20-foot radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range. The area becomes heavily obscured, and any creature that enters the cloud or starts its turn there must make a Dexterity saving throw.
A creature takes 6d8 acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. In addition to the initial damage, a creature that fails the saving throw takes 4d8 acid damage at the start of each of its turns while it remains within the cloud. The cloud's acidic nature also causes difficult terrain, halving the movement speed of creatures within it.
The cloud's area is considered difficult terrain for the duration, and the cloud moves with the wind. It lasts for the duration or until a wind of moderate or greater speed (at least 10 miles per hour) disperses it. The cloud can't pass through an area of total cover, and it is unaffected by wind of 9 miles per hour or less.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the initial and recurring acid damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th.
