You shroud a creature you can see within range with an illusory veil of shadows. The veil obscures its form, making it harder to target accurately. Until the start of your next turn, any creature that makes an attack roll against the target has disadvantage on the roll. If a spell is cast against the target that requires a saving throw, the target has advantage on that saving throw. The shadows do not physically move the target or shield them from physical contact, but distort perceptions.
Shadow Drain: When you cast this spell, you are partially drawn into the Shadowfell for a fleeting moment and emerge drained. This effect imposes disadvantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw you make before the end of your next turn. If the next action you take involves casting a spell that requires an attack roll, you make that roll with disadvantage. If the spell you cast instead requires a saving throw, the target creature will have advantage on its saving throw.
The protective shadowy aura fades from the target at the start of your next turn. This spell's illusionary nature makes it ineffective against creatures with truesight or similar abilities that allow them to see through illusions.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the range increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 1st.
