You animate the spell's material components with malice, causing it to spring to life and immediately dart towards a creature of your choice that you see within 30ft of you. The creature makes a Dexterity save or takes 1d6 necrotic damage and has the object latch onto or embed itself in it. For the duration, the creature takes 1d6 necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns. The target, or a creature within 5ft of it, can use its action to remove the object, ending the spell. If the creature succeeds its save or the spell ends, the object falls lifeless to the ground in the target's place.

The spell's damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th (2d6), 11th (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).
