Either through malice or determination to come out on top, a swirling azure bolt forms in your hands to hurl at those deserving. The first time you attack a creature with this spell, you deal damage as normal. Additionally, the next time you target the same creature with this spell, you gain a +1 bonus to your damage roll, up to a maximum equal to your proficiency bonus.

However, if you attack a different creature before the initial creature is incapacitated, you suffer a -2 reduction to your damage roll (minimum 1 damage), the penalty decreasing as you continue attacking. 

This spell's damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).
