You shed the blood of your foe and use it against them. As part of the action of casting this spell, make a melee attack against a creature within range. If the attack hits, in addition to the standard damage of the melee attack, the creature is impaled on a spike formed from their own blood. While in this state, the creature is incapacitated, but can make a constitution saving throw against your spell save DC at the end of each of its turns to end the effect. While incapacitated in this way, the creature takes 2d8 piercing damage at the start of each of it's turns, granting you temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt. This damage cannot be reduced in any way.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 4th
