Choose up to five falling creatures within range. A falling creature's rate of descent slows to 60 feet per round until the spell ends. If the creature lands before the spell ends, it takes no falling damage and can land on its feet, and the spell ends for that creature.
* - which you take when you or a creature within 60 feet of you falls ** - (a small feather or piece of down)

Posted Apr 27, 2021You could just have the feather woven into the shield strap or your bracers, man, this has no somatic component, so you just have to be touching a feather and saying the words (muhammad ali muhammad ali float like a butterfly sting like a bee)...

Posted Jan 10, 2022You should read your player's handbook again. Components that DO NOT have a cost don't need to be considered when casting a spell if you use an Arcane Focus/component pouch and other similar items. And if you're just casting spells without worrying about hands then you're already ignoring rules so I fail to see the problem.

Posted Jun 3, 2022You should read their post again. They are worrying about hands and are not ignoring rules, and you do fail to see the problem. The point being made is that a sword-and-board gish does not have a free hand available to use their component pouch or grab their focus (if they can even use one), which make it hard to cast this spell on a reaction.

Posted Jun 3, 2022If the bird is falling, the spell takes affect as stated. If the bird is flying it is not a valid target for the spell as it is not a "falling creature".

Posted Jun 27, 2022From our reading, there's some ambiguity with the wording of this spell which I will illustrate with an example and hope that someone can give a good definitive answer:
Can they be saved by Feather fall? In the first sentence, it seems that the answer is easily yes:
Choose up to five falling creatures within range.
However, the question comes up because of the footnote on the Reaction casting time:
* - which you take when you or a creature within 60 feet of you falls
When the party begins falling, they are out of range of the spell and therefore technically could be considered an invalid trigger for the spell.
However, from the Wizard's point of view, the start of their fall could be considered as the moment when they reach the 60' range. And since it's the Wizard's reaction, I would think that that is the perspective that counts.
Thoughts?

Posted Jul 29, 2022The reaction trigger is “when they fall” not “when they begin falling.” Now, falling rules are also weird in DND; the rules on timing/duration are unclear and require interpretation. Some say it happens instantly. Some use alternative rules and calculate fall rates. But I’d allow it to be cast if the paths of those falling come within 60 ft of the caster.

Posted Feb 21, 2023If you're falling & cast Feather Fall, can you maneuver in the air? Or are you not able to move around like with Levitation? Because you're still falling, just slower, you should have the ability to maneuver yourselves to say, a wall & grab on, right?

Posted Jun 30, 2023I'm sure it's useless, since most parties consist of 5 players or less, but why can't you upcast this to choose additional creatures that this spell affects?
I'm playing an alchemist artificer, whose alchemist's supplies (material component) will have a potion (prepared during spell preparation on previous long rest) which explodes upon verbal command, and activates upon contact, hitting everyone within 60ft, but only affecting 5 of those creatures (bc of spell/potion strength).
