Academic Weapon

You conjure a weapon made from the anguish of countless souls from B+ tests, which takes the form of your choosing. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. The weapon has the light and thrown (range 20/60) properties. The weapon has a melee range of 5 ft. no matter the form.

The weapon deals 1d8 psychic damage on hit, and the target must answer a random trivia question which you come up with. Time is frozen around you and the creature hit for one round, while they answer the question. If they answer correctly, you take 1d8 psychic damage backlash (DO roll concentration). But if they fail, they take 1d8 psychic damage backlash and is temporarily banished to the astral plane for one round.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a 3rd- or 4th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 2d8, and backlash damage increases to 2d8. When you cast it using a 5th- or 6th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 3d8, and backlash damage increases to 3d8. When you cast it using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the damage increases to 4d8, and backlash damage increases to 4d8.
