You can learn this cantrip multiple times. Each time you do, choose acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder for the weapon's damage type, and choose a melee weapon you have proficiency with that isn't a Lance and doesn't have the Heavy or Two-Handed properties for the weapon's form. From that point onward, the spell's name is determined by your choices (ex. Conjure Acidic Spear or Conjure Flame Whip).
You touch the hilt or shaft of a weapon, or an appropriate substitute, and conjure an elemental manifestation of the weapon's missing pieces (such as the blade or spearhead, or any part you wouldn't be holding on to). The weapon behaves as normal for a weapon of the same type, but deals elemental damage of the spell's type, and you can add your spellcasting ability modifier to the attack and damage rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity. If you use your spellcasting ability modifier, the attack counts as a melee spell attack. The spell ends early if you lose concentration or let go of the weapon.
At 5th level, you can use a d6 for the weapon's damage die. At 11th level, you can use a d8 (or d10 versatile), and at 17th level, you can use a d10 (or d12 versatile).
The material component for this spell depends on the weapon you intend to create, and is used as the grip for the weapon. Your ability to substitute this component with a spellcasting focus is limited: the focus' shape must be appropriate to the weapon. For example, you could use a staff as the shaft for a conjured spear, but not as the hilt of a conjured dagger. A wand can be used as the grip for any conjured weapon, but you won't be able to take advantage of the Versatile property if the weapon is a quarterstaff, spear, or trident since a wand isn't long enough to give you an effective two-handed grip with those weapon types. A rod would be, but is also too large to be used for a sword or dagger. You must obtain a suitable component for this spell even if you already have a component pouch.
