Arcane Grapple

When you or an ally within 10 feet are targeted by a spell, you can use your reaction to initiate an arcane grapple. While this spell is active, the spellcasting foci of both combatants link with an arc of light (harry potter wizard lightning battle). While their foci are linked in this way, both the target and the caster must concentrate on the grapple, as if they were concentrating on a spell.

Both the target and caster of this spell's walking speed is reduced to 10 feet.

This link ends if one of the two combatants goes behind total cover, or they move outside the range of the spell that triggered the reaction. 

As an action, the target of this spell can roll an opposed arcana check to break free (like a regular grapple, but with arcana). The caster of this spell has a +2 of -2 modifier to this check for every spell level higher or lower than the initiating spell. They can also get free by breaking the caster of this spell. Only the creature casting this spell may end it by failing a concentration check. The target creature can also choose to break concentration on the grapple, cancelling the spell they intended to cast. A creature that chooses to break concentration on the grapple still expends their spell slot.

After this spell is ended, the spell that initiated it is cast, targeting the same creature or location as before the grapple. If the intended target is now out of range or area of effect, the spell has no effect.

Those that have not attended the Scholia Arcana cannot cast this spell. They also cannot add their proficiency modifier to the arcana check, even if they are proficient in the arcana skill.

For levels above 1st:

The caster of this spell has a +2 of -2 modifier to this check for every spell level higher or lower than the initiating spell.
