You wave a hand in the air wildly, and static forms around you, condensing into motes of energy to be released on your enemies. When you cast this spell, you create 3d4 balls of lightning. You may choose any number of targets depending on how many balls of lightning you produced, dividing the balls of lightning as you please, and making one spell attack against each target. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 lightning damage for each ball of lightning hurled at them.
Any attack against a single target involving more than 4 balls of lightning cannot be critical hits, and any attack against a single target involving more than 7 balls of lightning are made with disadvantage. You do not need to use every ball of lightning, but every ball of lightning not used deals 2 lightning damage to you.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the number of lightning balls increases by 1d4 for every two slot levels above 2nd.
