You create an astral weapon of your choice—sword, axe, hammer, or any other melee weapon you're proficient with. The weapon hovers in the air within range and lasts for the duration or until you cast this spell again. When you cast the spell, you can make a melee spell attack against a creature within 5 feet of the weapon. On a hit, the target takes damage equal to 1d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier. The weapon is then dismissed, or it returns to your hand if you have a free hand.
The spell's damage increases when you reach higher levels. At 3rd level, it becomes 2d8, and it increases by 1d8 at 5th, 7th, and 9th levels.
