Choose the corpse of a creature on the ground within range. The corpse must be from a non-construct creature that died within the last 24 hours. Otherwise, a cup of blood from a creature that hasn't died more than 24 hours ago will suit, and the blood doesn't have to be in a container.
The 5 foot cube of the corpse or blood immediately sprouts into a sickly but sharp thorn bramble that makes it's space difficult terrain. If damaged in any way, the Bloodbramble quickly regrows.Creatures that are in the Bloodbramble and only 5 feet deep from the viewer are lightly obscured; otherwise the bramble causes it's area to be heavily obscured.
Creatures that start their turn in it's space must make a Dexterity Saving Throw and be restrained and take 5d4 piercing damage on fail, or half damage and not be restrained on success and ending any restrained condition caused by this spell. Creatures can use their action to repeat this saving throw, taking damage as above. If a creature uses any movement speed within the Bloodbramble, it must repeat the saving throw, instead taking 5d4 piercing damage for every 5 feet moved on success, or half as much and restrained on fail. You have advantage on these saving throws and resistance to the spell's damage.
At the beginning of your turn, if the Bloodbramble has dealt damage to any non-construct creature or a non-construct corpse (small or larger) has arrived within it's space since the start of your last turn, the radius of the Bloodbramble expands by 5 feet in every direction. This expansion only goes into soft surfaces such as liquids and mud, and is stopped by firm surfaces such as wood, stone, ice and metal, etc. The Bloodbramble can expand through holes as small as a keyhole. The widest radius that the Bloodbramble can have from the point of origin is 30 feet times your spell casting modifier (minimum 30 feet).
The plant created by this spell can be used for spells like Tree Stride and Transport via Plants, allowing casters to safely step out of the bramble into unoccupied space, and using this plant as both entry and exit plants.
Casting Plant Growth on the Bloodbramble causes it to instantly expand by 5 feet in every direction as above.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, each damage roll increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 5th.
