Main Portion:
First of all, the caster of Argam's Divine Sword (or simply Divine Sword) must have their Material Components stored within a clenched fist, with their index finger pointed outward. These are consumed upon use.
Upon casting Divine Sword, unless they were to get a NAT 1 with Perception, the user will notice that a glowing, transparent aura has now engulfed their forearm and hand, taking the relative shape of a blade that extends 2 feet out from the tip of their finger. The color of said aura is chosen by the caster upon casting Divine Sword.
Using Divine Sword to strike at a nearby opponent uses the caster's Wisdom Spellcasting Modifier (keyword being Wisdom, this is very important) to make a melee weapon attack, dealing 1d8 Slashing (or Piercing), 1d8 Fire, and 1d8 Radiant damage on a hit (3d8 in total).
If used with a higher-level Spell Slot, the damage is multiplied by the Spell level (3d8 becomes 6d8 at 2nd Level, and so on) for a maximum of 5x the damage (let's be real, casting this thing at 9th Level is too OP, with 27d8 damage PER ATTACK. Jesus-). The Material Components multiply by the same conditions as well, without a maximum.
Extra Information:
Divine Sword is instantly dispelled if the caster were to unclench their fist, or move their index finger out of a pointing position. However, it is possible to dispel the Sword temporarily to cast another spell that requires Somatic Components, as long as Divine Sword is immediately used again on your next Bonus Action (taking no Spell Slots as long as Concentration is maintained, but it will take Material Components).
If one were to expend twice as much Gold as needed for the spell, they can even cast it without using a Spell Slot. However, this can only be done an amount of times equal to their Wisdom Modifier, and they regain all expended uses over a Long Rest or if they are within sight of any Channel Divinity (including their own).
If you were to have more than the required amount of Gold in your fist (unless your case is the example above), like 1 Gold Piece for the 1st Level spell, the spell will only take the required amount. Like the inventor, Argam, the magic used is extremely precise and fair.
* - (Enough Gold to cover the cost of a single Silver piece, see description above)
