You reach out to the spirits of nature. The nearest beast to fail a wisdom saving throw becomes your woodland friend. Only beasts of CR equal to or lower than 1/8th of your druid level are affected by this spell (Like wild shape, but with no swimming or flying speed restrictions). Beasts in your vicinity make saving throws in order of increasing distance between them and you, and the first to fail becomes your friend (with the exception that beasts in your direct line of sight make saving throws before any others). If there are no beasts in a one mile radius of you, the spell fails.

Your woodland friend acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn. On its turn the woodland friend can take any actions as normal, but attacks against other beasts have disadvantage.

When the friend drops to 0 hit points, it dies without making saving throws and the caster takes 1d4+1 psychic damage as the bond is severed.

While your friend is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. Additionally, as an action, you can see through your friend's eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the friend has. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses.

As an action, you can dismiss your friend. It returns to being a free beast, but if this spell is cast again in its vicinity, it automatically fails its wisdom saving throw. You can't have more than one friend at a time. If you cast this spell while you already have a friend, you dismiss your current friend and reach out to search for a new one, your previous friend automatically succeeds its saving throw.

Finally, when you cast a spell with a range of touch, your friend can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your friend must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell immediately when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, you use your attack modifier for the roll.
