You target one creature with a soul within range, and violently grasp at its life force. The target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. You create a visible ethereal unstable connection between yourself and the target and begin to forcefully drain the life force of the creature. It takes 8d6 force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, the target is drained for 3d6 force damage at the beginning of your turn every turn for the spell’s duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target repeats the saving throw to end the effect. The caster is healed for half of any damage dealt by this spell. This magical connection can’t be removed through nonmagical means. If this damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, it dies.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the initial damage increases by 2d6, and recurring damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 6th.
