Upon casting Alaunghaer's Triptych, you gain the ability to instantaneously activate up to three magic items that you are either wearing or carrying. This spell allows you to choose the sequence in which these items are activated, but it limits you to activating only one specific ability per item per casting of the spell. The abilities eligible for activation include those that require a spell or a command word to be used. It is essential that the items to be activated are ones you could normally use—meaning you must know any required command words, and you must meet any class or other specific prerequisites for their use. For instance, a character without cleric levels cannot use this spell to activate items such as a staff of healing or a necklace of prayer beads.

The items must also be worn or carried as intended (e.g., bracers on the forearms, rings on fingers, necklaces around the neck) to be eligible for activation through this spell. When activated by this spell, the items function normally, including the selection of targets or areas, without any penalties for the accelerated activation process. You have the flexibility to target the same or different targets with the activated items. However, should you activate multiple items that produce touch effects, such as those akin to the spell shocking grasp, only the effect of the last item activated will take effect. Any prior touch effects will dissipate, rendering the activation of multiple touch-based effects inefficient.

The reliability of Alaunghaer's Triptych is not guaranteed. Each time you cast the spell, you must roll a percentile die for each item you attempt to activate. A roll of 5% or lower indicates that the spell fails to activate that particular item. If the failed activation was for the first or second item, you are permitted another attempt to activate it with any remaining activations provided by the spell for this casting.
