This spell wards a willing creature you touch and creates a mystic connection between you and the target until the spell ends. While the target is within 60 feet of you, it gains a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws, and it has resistance to all damage. Also, each time it takes damage, you take the same amount of damage.
The spell ends if you drop to 0 hit points or if you and the target become separated by more than 60 feet. It also ends if the spell is cast again on either of the connected creatures. You can also dismiss the spell as an action.
* - (a pair of platinum rings worth at least 50 gp each, which you and the target must wear for the duration)
"Just cast on yourself RAW lol" doesn't work because Rules as Written, each time you take additional damage, you take more damage. so for instance, a goblin hits you for 4 damage. because you now have resistance, you take 2 damage instead, but also take an additional 2 damage due to taking the same amount of damage. the problem comes when, Rules as Written, that extra 2 damage also causes you to take an additional 2 damage. now we're up to 6 damage, and it doesn't slow down. that extra extra 2 damage causes you to take an additional 2 damage, and so on and so forth. so, even if you can cast it on yourself RAW by wearing 2 rings, don't cast it on yourself unless you want any goblin to be able to casually one-shot your level 15 Paladin with 125 hit points.
Only Oath of the Crown Paladins get this spell. You've probably figured that out at this point, but just in case.
Clarification please
With the person warded having resistances to all forms of damage which I believe means 1/2 damage, and with the spell caster receiving damage is it also the 1/2 damage? … and if the spell caster has resistance to that damage is it halved gain?
example person being warded takes 20 points fire damage halved for 10 points due to resistance to all forms of damage, so that means the caster also takes that 10 points fire damage not the original 20 points right? And if the caster has their own resistance to fire damage it would be halved again to 5 right?
Or am I missing a major piece here?
But you have resistance to all damage. Starting with 4 damage, resistance makes that 2 initially, plus WB damage for (initially) 2 more. That 2nd set of damage is resisted down to 1. And per the PHB rule on rounding down (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/introduction#RoundDown) when that 1 is applied to you again due to WB, it gets resisted to 0. Total damage taken: 3.
So if you self-target, you get +1 AC, +1 to saves, and take slightly less damage.
You've got it. Note that the spell doesn't inherently give resistance to you as the caster, so you probably need to find resistance from somewhere else.
It doesn’t have a range of self and is not an area so you cannot cast it on yourself
Most contrived situation to make this not excellent protection option. This spell will give the wizard +1 AC, +1 Saving throws and resistance to everything, decreasing the chances of taking that 50 damage(which you didn't cite a source for so im assuming melee hit, which might've been prevented by +1 AC) and the damage taken. You neglect the +1s and focus on the resistance and negated it with a potion. In this extremely niche circumstance, yes you take 25 extra damage. Otherwise, it is splitting the damage and giving bonus defenses, as intended.

Oh wild. Super MAD though
Artificer subclass that gets this spell as part of their expanded spell list feature
This depends on which the DM decides applies first. If the invulnerability potion applied first the paladin would not take half the damage, but if Warding Bond applied first they would. That said if the Wizard already has a source of resistance there is no reason to use the spell on them in the first place.
Neither does "cure wounds" are you suggesting you can't touch yourself?
The true cost of this spell is all the marriage jokes your party will make.
