A gleaming wave of golden energy arcs towards a creature within range, smiting a target with righteous fury.

Make a ranged spell attack. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 radiant damage or 2d8 damage if the target is a fiend, aberration or undead. If the attack is a critical, the target is knocked prone.

The spell creates more than one wave when you reach higher levels: two waves at 5th level, three waves at 11th level, and four waves at 17th level. You can direct the waves at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each wave.
