This spell summons a microscopic mote of negative energy from the Elemental Chaos to the caster’s hand. The caster must immediately roll a CON save at DC12 to resist the effects of negative energy and control the blackmote. If the caster fails the initial save, she loses control of the mote. It immediately explodes in the caster’s hand, inflicting 1 damage and inflicting paralysis for 1d4 rounds. If the caster succeeds, the blackmote will lie dormant in the hand for one round, building up power. The caster must maintain concentration during this period. If the caster’s concentration is broken during this time, the blackmote is dispelled
As a bonus action, at the start of the caster's next round the blackmote can be hurled at a creature within the range of the spell. The mote automatically strikes (see Magic Missile), exploding in a burst of darkness and cold, inflicting 2d6 necrotic damage, plus one additional point per level of the caster. For each additional spell level above 2nd, the caster adds 1d6 necrotic and the DC to control the Blackmote increases by 1.
Undead creatures are unaffected by a blackmote.
Adapted from a spell reportedly created by the mysterious illusionist Nystul. The original spell no longer functions as described, and calls for material components that do not seem to exist. Attempts to scribe Nystul's Blackmote invariably fail but this version, adapted by Arketon the Boundless, retains most of the behavior as it is described in legend.
