You shroud the minds of your adversaries with a choking mental darkness, invoking their deepest fears of the abyssal depths. They are subjected to the numbing cold and the terror of writhing pelagic shapes, which leaves them vulnerable to assault.
Choose a creature you can see within range. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target is paralyzed by their overwhelming fear, suffering from vivid hallucinations of the abyssal depths. While paralyzed, they have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws and are vulnerable to psychic damage. If they take damage from any source, they can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns to end the paralysis.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 3rd.
This spell captures the essence of invoking fear and surprise through dark, watery imagery and leaves the targets vulnerable to assault without being overly powerful, making it a suitable 3rd-level enchantment spell in D&D 5e.
