With this spell, you place the etched stone in a location as a waypoint marker and attune it to the bent branch.  The twine is consumed in the process of attunement, while the other component remain.

After travelling some distance, you can use the bent branch as a compass to direct you back to the location of the etched stone.  The caster can select the quickest or safest route when using the bent branch for direction.

If the spell is cast at first level, the waypoint stone cannot move more than ten feet before the attunement with the branch is lost.  If the spell is cast using a second level spell slot, the stone can be moved up to one mile with losing the connection with the bent branch.  Using a third or higher slot allows the waypoint stone to be moved an unlimited distance.  The connection between the stone and branch will be lost if the two items are moved to different planes.

Only one waypoint can be active for a spellcaster at a time.

* - (A stone etched with a mystical symbol, a bent branch, and a 6-inch piece of twine or string.)
