Choose a manufactured metal object, such as a metal weapon or a suit of heavy or medium metal armor, that you can see within range. You cause the object to glaze over with frost, dropping it to temperatures far below freezing in an instant.

If you cast this spell on a piece of armor or a shield, it can be damaged to harmlessly shatter it. An object has AC equal to the material it is made from (found in Chapter 15 of the Basic Rules). If the creature wearing the armor or shield has an AC higher than the material the armor or shield is made from, use their AC instead.

If you cast this spell on a metal weapon or piece of ammunition, any attack made with the weapon or piece of ammunition deals an additional 2d8 cold damage.

If the object you cast the spell upon is submerged or drenched in water, all water surrounding the object is instantly frozen. If a creature is carrying or wearing the submerged item, they must make a Strength saving throw or become paralyzed as they are encased in a thick layer of ice. This save must be repeated until the spell ends, whether the initial save was failed or not.

Finally, if the object being targeted by this spell is afflicted by the Heat Metal spell, the effects of both spells are suppressed, but neither spell fails until one of the casters ends concentration.
