In response to being attacked, you swiftly summon a barrier of shimmering ice. This icy shield has 25 hit points and absorbs damage you would take from attacks until the end of your next turn, which deducts from its hit points. The shield has vulnerability to fire damage and immunity to cold damage.
On your turn, if the shield has hit points remaining, you can transmute it into an icicle and make a ranged spell attack with it as a bonus action against a creature within 60 feet. On hit, the target takes 1d8 + the remaining hit points of the shield as cold damage.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the initial hit points of the ice barrier increase by 5 for each slot level above 3rd.
Mastery: Great cryomancers can learn to enhance the spell by perfecting the shield sculpture required as a material component for this spell. If you received this training (at the DM's discretion) the spell gains this additional benefit:
When struck by an attack dealing cold damage, the spell’s ice shield gains additional hit points equal to half the cold damage that would have been dealt.
* - 1 reaction, which you take when you are hit by an attack ** - ( a piece of non-magical ice carved to resemble a shield, which the spell consumes)
