You create a vineyard around you, composed of thorned-vines that grow and twist across the ground, that pricks and even impales creatures around you. The vineyard is centered on you and stretches out to 30 feet around you so long as there is solid ground for the vines to grow upon. This area counts as difficult terrain. This spell has no affect on undead creatures or constructs. Creatures in the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw, taking 7d6 piercing damage on a failure or half as much on a success. Additionally, if a creature fails the saving throw, the vines also pierce into that creature's body, causing it to be restrained as the vines impale the creature.
When a creature starts its turn while impaled, that creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 20). On a failure, the creature takes 4d6 necrotic damage and has their hit point maximum reduced by half of the necrotic damage take. This reduction can only be restored by taking a long rest, or by use of a healing spell of 5th level of higher, such as greater restoration. On a success, the creature takes half of the necrotic damage and does not have their hit point maximum reduced.
At the end of the creature's turn, if it is restrained, it may make Strength saving throw (DC 19) or Dexterity saving throw (DC 19) to free itself from the vines. On a success, the creature takes half of 4d6 necrotic damage and is freed. On a failure, the creature takes 4d6 necrotic damage and has its hit point maximum reduced by half of the necrotic damage taken.
