On a hit, the target takes 17 (5d6) necrotic damage. You regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt this way, but no more than the target's hit points at the time the spell was cast.

This spell deals no damage to creatures with resistance to necrotic damage. If you cast this spell on a creature with immunity to necrotic damage, instead you take necrotic damage as though you were the target of the spell, and the target of the spell regains hit points equal to half that amount. This damage can't be prevented in any way.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for every slot level above 2nd.
