Slashing

You fill the air with spinning daggers in a cube 5 feet on each side, centered on a point you choose within range. A creature takes 4d4 slashing damage when it enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there.

Or, at least, that's what it's supposed to do. When casting the spell, roll 1d6 for the type of malfunction encountered.

  1. One of the daggers flies off in a random direction. Roll 1d20. On a 10 or lower, it hits an ally and on an 11 or higher, it hits an enemy, both of the DM's choosing. It does 1d4 damage.
  2. The cloud is more of a gentle mist. The daggers only do half damage to targets while the spell is active.
  3. The daggers whirl in a mesmerizing dance. Any creature in the spell's area only takes 1d4 damage but must make a wisdom save or become charmed by the caster.
  4. Blood oozes from the daggers. Any creature in the spell's area only takes 1d4 damage but must make a dexterity save or fall prone. Additionally, the creature must make a wisdom save or become frightened by the caster.
  5. The spell takes a lot more focus than usual. After every turn of the caster, roll a concentration check to keep the spell active.
  6. The daggers are shy today. Roll 1d4. On an odd number, the spell takes affect at the start of your next turn. On an even number, the spell takes affect at the start of your turn 2 rounds from the current one. The specified point for the spell to appear does not change.
