infuse your blade with magic using an action and a bonus action (and a level 2 spell slot unless upcast) as it shimmers with a blue hue and your body becomes incorporeal, hold your blade back in a power stance and then unleash a devastating thrusting strike that has such immense force that it carries you along with it at lightning speeds. the thrust attack causes you to phase through your target, causing you to not cause opportunity attacks upon approach or exit.
this attack has many benefits.
- - it deals 4d6 force damage, and converts the damage of your weapon into force damage.
- - it can be done from up to 35 feet away from a target (as you need the extra 5 feet of movement to ethereal shift into and behind the enemy), and the 30 feet of movement is free and does not cost any of your movement to do but the last 5 feet do cost your own movement. (the movement stops once you hit an enemy, but you move 5 feet behind them)
- - this attack has an additional +spellcasting modifier to attack rolls and damage that stacks with your prior bonus (does not stack the same bonus twice though) such as a +3 from strength, a +2 from intelligence, and a +3 from proficiency would be a +8 to the attack roll and damage. but classes like a hexblade that use charisma for spellcasting and attack rolls will not benefit from this (still an amazing spell though)
- - debuffs the enemy hit by this spell to have a - to every roll until the start of your next turn by - your proficiency bonus
- - and lastly, you add your proficiency bonus to your armor class until the start of your next turn.
at higher levels:
- obviously this scales with your spellcasting and proficiency modifier as you get higher stats and levels.
- every spell slot you upcast this (from 3rd-9th level) you add 1d6 force damage to the attack. (5d6, 6d6, 7d6, 8d6, 9d6, 10d6, 11d6)
- lastly at 4th level and higher you gain a -1 to critical threshold for the attack, critting on a 19-20 for 99% of subclasses, this stacks with any improved critical spells, debuffs, or features. The critical threshold can only be minused by 1 through this method but it does stack with other sources of critical threshold reducing.
