When cast on a creature or the caster, 10 small hexagonal barriers appear around them, hovering and moving around close to their body. Against incoming attacks, a single barrier will sacrifice itself to absorb some of the damage. Only one barrier is sacrificed per incoming instance of damage. Each barrier reduces damage by a single point, shattering the barrier in the process.
This spell can be cast multiple times even on the same creature, refreshing the duration and adding more barriers, up to a maximum of 30 active barriers per creature.
At Higher Levels: For every level above 1st, an additional 5 barriers are created per casting, up to the maximum of 30 (at a 5th level casting). Additionally, multiple barriers can overlap, reducing attacks by multiple points, up to the original casting of the spell's level (casting at 3rd level allows 3 barriers to sacrifice per attack, reducing damage by 3 points). Refreshing the spell while any barriers are still active on the creature, using a lower-than-original spell level, does not alter this effect.
