You stab a creature that has died within the last minute. That creature returns to life with 1d8 hit points, and you lose that many hitpoints from your health pool total. These hitpoints can only be restored with a wish spell. This spell can't return to life a creature that has died of old age, nor can it restore any missing body parts.
