You touch a creature within range, instilling it with a virulent necromantic infection. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 8d8 necrotic damage and becomes infected for the duration. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and is not infected.

While infected, the creature takes 4d8 necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns. Additionally, any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of an infected creature and within 120 feet of you must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the nearby creature also becomes infected and suffers the same ongoing damage. This can cause a chain reaction, infecting multiple creatures in proximity.

An infected creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. The infection can also be removed by any spell or effect that cures disease or removes curses, such as Lesser Restoration, Remove Curse, or Dispel Magic. Dropping concentration on the spell also removes the infection from all affected creatures.

A creature that has successfully ended the infection on itself or has had the infection removed by any means cannot be reinfected by this spell. The caster is immune to the effects of this spell and cannot become infected.

This spell has no effect on undead or constructs.
