You open a two-inch diameter portal to the third layer of hell conjuring putrid, hooked chains which hurl towards nearby targets. The portal can be free floating or on a solid surface you touch. The chains have a range of 60 feet from where you placed the portal. You can send them to one target or several. Make a ranged spell attack for each chain. On a hit, the target's speed is reduced by 10 feet for each chain attached to the target and takes 2d4 acid damage per chain applied. If a creature has a chain attached, they cannot move beyond 60 feet of the portal's opening. If you have chains available that have missed or been removed, you can use your bonus action on your turn to make an attack roll using one unused chain against a creature that you can see within the spell's area.
As an action a creature can remove one chain from themselves or another creature within 5 feet. The portal closes if you are ever outside the spell’s area, ending the spell.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you create one additional chain for each slot level above 3rd.
