Bone Scythe (Necromancer's Shillelagh) - Chuck

You touch a quarterstaff or a bone of similar size, and it transforms into a weapon of necromantic power. For the duration, you can use your spellcasting ability for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon, and the weapon's damage die becomes a d8. The weapon also sprouts a spectral, sickly green scythe blade from one end, giving it a menacing appearance.

This spell lasts for the duration or until you cast it again.

At Higher Levels:

The damage of the weapon increases as you gain levels. At 5th level, the damage increases to 2d8; at 11th level, the damage increases to 3d8; and at 17th level, the damage increases to 4d8.

Possible Additional Features: 

• Improvement through Focal Objects: If the caster uses a specially prepared bone or a quarterstaff (either of exceptional quality and components) with necromantic runes inscribed upon it, the damage can be further enhanced. These focal objects must be created during a ritual requiring 1 hour and 50 gp worth of necromantic components. When using such a focus, the base damage increases by one die (e.g., 2d8 at 1st level, 3d8 at 5th level, 4d8 at 11th level, and 5d8 at 17th level).
• Life Drain: On a critical hit, the scythe draws life energy from the target, healing the caster for an amount equal to the spell's base damage dice (e.g., 1d8 at 1st level, 2d8 at 5th level, etc.).
• Double damage against undead you have personally created.

Example Usage:

Pickwick Whitterstitch, the necromancer, grabs a bone from his collection. He whispers the incantation, and the bone grows into a dark staff with a spectral scythe blade. As he swings it, green energy crackles along the edge, promising swift and painful retribution to any who stand against him. With each level he gains, the bone scythe becomes more deadly, making him a formidable foe on the battlefield.
