You touch an object or creature to imbue it with consciousness and intellect.
-
Objects: You can target a non-magical object that isn’t being worn or carried. The object gains the ability to move on its own, using a speed of 20 feet for all movement types (such as walking, flying, swimming, etc.), or it may become a creature depending on its shape (e.g., an animated statue might become a construct). The object gains an Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma score of 10, and it can speak one language you know. The object also gains senses similar to a living creature, including sight and hearing, with a range of 60 feet. The object becomes a creature under the DM’s discretion, usually a construct, with hit points appropriate for a creature of CR 5. The object retains its original form but gains a limited ability to reshape or repair itself over time.
-
Creatures: You can target a creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or less (including beasts, plants, or other low-intelligence creatures). The target’s Intelligence score increases to 10, and it gains the ability to speak one language you know. It also becomes proficient in one skill of your choice. Additionally, the creature’s alignment changes to match yours unless it is already within one step of your alignment. The creature gains the ability to reason, make decisions, and follow complex commands.
-
Other Constructs or Undead: You can target constructs or undead creatures with a CR of 5 or lower. These creatures gain an Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma score of 10, along with the ability to speak one language you know. Their alignment shifts to match yours, and they become friendly to you and your companions.
Once the target has been awakened, it is charmed by you for 30 days or until you or your companions do anything harmful to it. When the charm effect ends, the awakened target chooses whether to remain friendly to you, based on how it was treated while charmed.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the CR of a construct or undead you can target increases by 1 for each slot level above 7th.
