A creature within range must succeed on an Intelligence saving throw as you tap into the creature's most disturbing nightmares. On a failed saving throw, the creature is frightened.
At the end of their next turn, a creature frightened by this spell must repeat the saving throw; on a failure, they are instead paralyzed, while on a success the spell ends for the creature. A paralyzed creature repeats the saving throw at the end of their turn as well, though on a success they revert to being frightened instead. It is entirely possible for a creature to oscillate between being frightened and paralyzed for the duration of the spell, as only a successful save while frightened ends the spell altogether.
This spell has no effect on creatures with an Intelligence of 5 or lower, as well as those who do not dream, such as elves.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 4th. The creatures must be within 30 feet of each other when you target them.
