You create an Invisible, invulnerable eye within range that hovers for the duration. You mentally receive visual information from the eye, which can see in every direction. It also has Darkvision with a range of 30 feet.
As a Bonus Action, you can move the eye up to 30 feet in any direction. A solid barrier blocks the eye’s movement, but the eye can pass through an opening as small as 1 inch in diameter.

Posted Sep 4, 2024Dang. I was really hoping they'd lower the duration to 1 minute and make it a lower-level spell, or make it not invisible or invulnerable. Players are still just going to use them to grind the game to a halt and have the DM describe the entire dungeon to them as they explore it.

Posted Sep 17, 2024The following sentence is missing from the 2024 version:
"There is no limit to how far away from you the eye can move, but it can't enter another plane of existence."
Just thought I'd point that out.

Posted Oct 3, 2024I mean, at level 5 (assuming you went pact of chain) you can just perceive through your invisible imp as it flies around anywhere, not limited to distance, AND you can cast spells through it. Don't need Arcane Eye to scout or do anything, really. Almost a complete waste.

Posted Nov 10, 2024Yeah this just confuses me now. Does that mean the range is limited? Or that it can go to other planes?

Posted Nov 11, 2024It can probably go to other planes, but its maximum range is only 60'. Totally useless, indoors and out!

Posted Nov 29, 2024Where are you seeing 60'? No limit to the range, only that it can move 30' a round and it lasts for an hour. You do the math, but spoiler alert, its not 60' lol.

Posted Jan 6, 2025You have to cast the spell within 30 feet of yourself, and it has darkvision of 30 feet, but there is no limit on how far away it can go from you.

Posted Jul 12, 2025Just a really good spell all around. Lets you scout out an entire area ahead of time. Obviously that's somewhat annoying for many DMs who want the players to at least enter a room but the same could be said of sending an invisible familiar anywhere so it shouldn't be a huge issue as long as the DM knows you plan to use Arcane Eye in most areas ahead of time and can prepare their notes accordingly.

Posted Nov 12, 2025This spell isn't the dungeon mapping tool some think it is. RAW, the eye can pass through openings as small as 1 inch in diameter... which excludes most doors designed for Medium-size Humanoids (in real life, gaps under interior doors are about 3/4 inch.... and even narrower for exterior doors. You can look it up.) So DMs that are worried this spell will spoil their entire dungeon can simply decide: the narrow gap under the doors here doesn't allow the eye to squeeze through. On the other hand, a DM can also feel generous and decide that a particular goblin lair or giant-built dungeon complex has larger gaps. :P

Posted Nov 15, 2025Building codes in Texas are so lax, I am confident an arcane eye could map out my entire house with all of the doors closed! LOL

Posted Nov 15, 2025Can you use the eye as a barrier against blindness (if you are blind you can still see out of your Arcane Eye)?

Posted Nov 17, 2025Since it says "you mentally receive visual information from the eye", I'd say yes.
