A 10-foot Emanation springs into existence around you and remains stationary for the duration. The spell fails when you cast it if the Emanation isn’t big enough to fully encapsulate all creatures in its area.
Creatures and objects within the Emanation when you cast the spell can move through it freely. All other creatures and objects are barred from passing through it. Spells of level 3 or lower can’t be cast through it, and the effects of such spells can’t extend into it.
The atmosphere inside the Emanation is comfortable and dry, regardless of the weather outside. Until the spell ends, you can command the interior to have Dim Light or Darkness (no action required). The Emanation is opaque from the outside and of any color you choose, but it’s transparent from the inside.
The spell ends early if you leave the Emanation or if you cast it again.

Posted Nov 19, 2025New to DnD here. Only been playing for about 2 months. Level 5 High Elf Hermit Evoker Wizard. Heavily addicted already.
So the 2014 version says nine creatures can fit inside. Does the same number apply? Is it a limitless number of creatures that can fit because it doesn't specify?

Posted Nov 24, 2025Neither. It's limited to however many creatures can actually fit inside the area. The actual number will vary depending on how big the creatures in question and how big the creature casting the spell is (because this affects the actual size of an Emanation). This is why it no longer specifies an exact number.

So wait, if my mage has to pee in the middle of the night he has to go inside the hut?
I know right?! It should be that the caster can leave at any time just like everyone else. The spell should endure whether the mage is inside or outside. If they have to have a limit on it the make it that the spell ends early if the mage goes farther than a certain distance, say 50 feet, from the spot he cast the spell (which would be the center of the hut).

Posted Jan 10, 2026This is so you are dissuaded from using it in combat, giving that you have prep time, like setting up an ambush. The person casting it would be stuck inside and won't be able to cast any spells of 3rd level or lower. This is meant to protect you wile you sleep.

Posted Aug 28, 2026This would make an incredible protection for ranged martial characters. Archers can shoot out but cant get shot.
"Creatures and objects within the Emanation when you cast the spell can move through it freely. All other creatures and objects are barred from passing through it."
RAW: So all the arrows, bolts, javelins, spears and other throwable weapons are objects that are inside when the spell is cast and can freely move through. But enemy archers outside cant shoot in. This could make for some great interactions. Considering its opague from the outside in transparent from the inside you would also always have advantage as well since you cant be seen.
If you have the time to set this up it can be an gamechanger. The only downside would be the caster would have to remain inside, but he can still cast low level buffing spells or higher level spells

Posted Sep 30, 2026I know it dosen’t effect much, but evocation feels really weird for this. I know its a combat dome, but this feels like a conjuration spell.
