Cold
You unleash a blast of cold air. Each creature in a 60-foot Cone originating from you makes a Constitution saving throw, taking 8d8 Cold damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. A creature killed by this spell becomes a frozen statue until it thaws.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 5.

🍦 Still great!
Good way to use Overchannel. 64 damage, compared to a 5th-Level fireball (60 damage), 5th-Level chromatic orb (56 damage), 5th-Level ice storm (54 damage), 5th-Level shatter (48 damage), and 5th-Level magic missile (7d4 + 7, or 35 damage). According to RAW, Overchannel effects ALL damage rolls of the spell, as nothing says that Overchannel only affects one damage roll.
Scorching Ray deals 12d6 damage or a maximum of 72 damage when cast using a 5th-Level spell slot, though it relies on you hitting all 6 attack rolls. Also, it's damage done to only one target. Cone of Cold affects everything in a 60-ft. cone that isn't immune to cold damage.
Vitriolic Sphere deals 68 damage in a 20-ft. sphere that can be placed anywhere you can see 150 feet away from you (which might be better or worse depending on the situation), and it deals acid damage (acid damage is less frequently resisted than cold damage). It doesn't deal that damage instantly though. Vitriolic Sphere is the only spell that I found to be a better use of Overchannel.
