Posted Sep 16, 2024Why wasn't this given an upcast for more targets? You seem to have added upcast to most other spells that could logically have one.

Posted Feb 19, 2025How in the world is this not divination or enchantment. In what world is this transmutation!?

Posted Feb 21, 2025Divination spells are largely about either seeing the future, contacting extraplanar entities, or seeing what's going on in a place far away from you. Enchantment spells are mostly about manipulating other creatures' emotions. Neither of those things really apply to this.
Transmutation, though, is about changing a creature or object's physical properties. Spells like this one (and, e.g., Alter Self) that alter a creature's senses or capabilities fit that definition.

Posted Jun 16, 2025Darkvision is common enough for both PC's & NPC's that darkness rarely has a mechanical effect in combat, unless the DM goes out if their way to make it one. Someone with a greater range to their darkvision could potentially abuse that against a creature with shorter range tho, and 150 feet makes 90% of creatures fair game for that strategy if you're a long ranged character.

Posted Dec 12, 2025Would this combine with Shadow Monk darkvision? Increasing it to 210ft?

Posted Dec 15, 2025I don't think that's the intent, no. The Warrior of Shadow's Darkvision feature is an instantaneous effect that occurs when you reach level 3 and choose that subclass. It doesn't augment future Darkvision effects.

Posted Jun 1, 2026Upcasting it isn't very different from just casting it at first level repeatedly. If you're casting this in combat you're doing something wrong.

Posted Jun 8, 2026Well, the idea would be to be able to affect more than one person with a single spell slot. You generally don't have more than three 2nd-level spell slots per day, and it'd be nice to be able to just use one higher-level spell slot instead of burning all the 2nd-level ones on this.
That said, the reason it doesn't have that ability may just be because hardly anyone ever uses this spell at all because there are so many other ways to get Darkvision.
