Detection
For the duration, you sense the presence of magical effects within 30 feet of yourself. If you sense such effects, you can take the Magic action to see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that bears the magic, and if an effect was created by a spell, you learn the spell’s school of magic.
The spell is blocked by 1 foot of stone, dirt, or wood; 1 inch of metal; or a thin sheet of lead.

Posted Dec 6, 2024This spell does not show up in character sheets as a ritual spell. Even if you try to sort by Ritual Spells it does not show up.

Posted Dec 27, 2024Not sure if you can see magic on a 1 foot thick wooden door or lead armor? Anyone know?

Posted Jan 6, 2025If the door itself were under some kind of magical effect, you could sense it. You couldn't sense an effect that was on the other side of the door.
The same would be true of lead armor, though making armor out of lead is probably a poor choice in general since it's such a soft metal and would be easily deformed by bludgeoning weapons.

Posted May 18, 2025Does *Detect Magic* detect illusions? It feels pretty silly that *Phantasmal Force* could be circumvented by a 1st level spell.

Posted May 20, 2025If you cast this spell on someone who is under the effect of Phantasmal Force, it would reveal that an illusion spell was affecting that person, though it wouldn't reveal which spell it was or exactly what was going on.
However, this does not remove the illusion or stop it from affecting anyone in the ways it normally does. Someone affected by Phantasmal Force would still need to successfully make the ability check described in that spell to remove its effects.

Posted Jun 2, 2025No, not unless they had some kind of magical effect on them at the time. Passive magical effects like the spell Mage Armor, or an Abjurer Wizard's Arcane Ward, would qualify. But simply being a Wizard or a Sorcerer would not.
