A Large spectral guardian appears and hovers for the duration in an unoccupied space that you can see within range. The guardian occupies that space and is invulnerable, and it appears in a form appropriate for your deity or pantheon.
Any enemy that moves to a space within 10 feet of the guardian for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 20 Radiant damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. The guardian vanishes when it has dealt a total of 60 damage.

Posted Jan 26, 2025There is one way it's better than Spirit Guardians -- no concentration. That's about it, though. Why can't you upcast this?

Posted Mar 20, 2025It has an 8 hour duration, so you can use it to guard your respite during a long rest (as long as the guardian can be concealed somehow so it doesn't give away your position). Better used if resting in a subterrean dungeon, as if you are resting with this guardian in the wilderness, the guardian will give away your position.
The spell is not meant for direct combat, but for guarding areas. It also has the benefit of not requiring concentration.

Posted Jun 7, 2025All it needed was Double the Range (20), more damage (30) and double the duration (120 damage). Also the ability to move it with a Magic Action and some form of upcasted effect.
Yet they couldn't even do that. Wth.

Posted Aug 30, 2025They could have at least dropped it down a level. This spell will never be picked as a ready 4th level slot. It's relegated to Prayer Beads, scrolls, and ensorcelled equipment... and if I got this as my random 4th level ensorcelled sword or something I'd wonder what cruel god broke the RNG.

Posted Dec 28, 2025Exactly, that's thinking outside the box which most people want lots of damage and they want it now. There are so many spells that are great utility but most miss them due to tunnel vision.

Posted Jan 27, 2026So, this is a cast before long rest sentry. That's the only real use i can think of.

Posted Jan 30, 2026If the guardian has already dealt 50 dmg, and would then deal 20, would it still deal the full 20 or just 10?

Posted Feb 2, 2026It would deal the full 20, and then the Guardian would vanish immediately.

Posted Feb 23, 2026How does the damage total work in regards to vulnerable/resistance?
it hits 20 dmg/10 dmg if saved
Vulnerable: so that is 40 dmg/20 dmg if saved
Resistant: so that is 10 dmg/5 dmg if saved
does that mean if they are vulnerable and don't save it does 2 attacks before disappearing (total of 80 dmg)
does that mean if they are resistant and all save it does 12 attacks before disappearing (total of 60 dmg)
or are we only counting the hit/save deductions, 3 attacks/6 attacks if all saves

Posted Feb 23, 2026Although it doesn't mention the question of resistance/vulnerability specifically, this question in Sage Advice does make it clear that it's the actual damage the creature takes that counts toward the threshold.
This would mean that, for instance, since a vulnerable creature failing the save would take 40 damage, that would use up the 60 damage total in two hits.

Posted Apr 11, 2026The Guardian of Faith providing half cover to you or allies would have been a good buff to this spell... would pair well given the inability to move the guardian
Also raising the damage cap a bit, maybe 80

Posted Apr 13, 2026Since it says the Guardian occupies its space, I think it is intended to provide half cover to a creature standing behind it, in the same way an actual creature would.

Posted Apr 14, 2026So my issue with that is, other spells where this is the case it's spelled out.
Bigby's Hand for example let's you provide half cover as a bonus action, but it's very explicitly said.
Blade Barrier explicitly says 3/4 cover
I can see the assumption, but it's up to DM interpretation

Posted Apr 15, 2026If 61 enemy rats with 1hp each approach the Guardian, and they all fail their saves, does the Guardian kill 3 of the rats (because it dealt 20 damage three times and is finished) or does it kill 60 rats (because they each only took 1 of the 20 points of damage “dealt” before dying)?

Posted Apr 17, 2026The damage on this spell is a set amount, not based off any damage rolls. It does 20 or 10 on a save... resistances and immunity still apply, but it does not do 1 damage even if that's all the HP the creature has
