Foreknowledge
This spell puts you in contact with a god or a god’s servants. You ask one question about a specific goal, event, or activity to occur within 7 days. The DM offers a truthful reply, which might be a short phrase or cryptic rhyme. The spell doesn’t account for circumstances that might change the answer, such as the casting of other spells.
If you cast the spell more than once before finishing a Long Rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get no answer.
* - (incense worth 25+ GP, which the spell consumes)

Posted Dec 5, 2025so why doesn't a paladin get to cast this? it would only make sense for a paladin, a warrior of a certain deity/god should be able to commune in such a way.

Posted Dec 9, 2025One thing I should point out, then, is that spell levels and class levels are two different things. Commune is a 5th-level spell, but that doesn't mean you gain access to it at level 5. Paladins first get 5th-level spell slots when they reach level 17. Commune isn't on the Paladin list, but it is available to one specific Paladin subclass (Oath of Devotion).
